Alarm just isn't loud enough.
We gave this clock to our 7 year old hockey fanatic son as a Christmas present and he loves it. What a great idea: a goal light flashing and siren blaring as the perfect way to rouse a hockey player from dreams of scoring a big goal. After viewing the youtube video of the alarm in action, we feared that the siren sound would blast the whole house but the volume is actually reasonable.As a hockey novelty the Fan Fever Goal Light is brilliantly executed and very authentic-looking, but as an alarm clock it has its shortcomings. The display is an LCD and cannot be seen in the dark without pushing the snooze button to turn on a temporary backlight. Even with the backlight, the digits are small and the alarm and "am/pm" icons are positively microscopic. The alarm volume cannot be adjusted. The clock function is absolutely minimal and looking at the construction quality I have my doubts about long term durability. I prefer alarm clocks that can be plugged in, and this one runs only on batteries. But if you are a hard core hockey fan like my son, I grant you these deficiencies will be just minor quibbles.
